EFHR’s third edition of the charity campaign for Polish orphanages

EFHR’s third edition of the charity campaign for Polish orphanages

IMAG0529On May 29th 2015 representatives of the European Foundation of Human Rights (EFHR) distributed gifts for children from an orphanage in Podbrodzie. These gifts were purchased thanks to financial contributions made by the Belgian Polish Diaspora.

EFHR would like to cordially thank the Belgian Polish Diaspora, especially the staff of the European Commission for the solidarity with their compatriots in Lithuania and for yet another financial contribution for the charity campaign for Polish orphanages in the Vilnius region. This year’s collected sum of money, almost 800 Euros, has enabled us to buy fantastic gifts chosen by children from the orphanage in Podbrodzie. The presents included, among other things, toys, games, brand-name clothes and shoes and cosmetic sets. We are incredibly happy that together with the Belgian Polish Diaspora we could fulfil the children’s wishes, especially considering that it was Children’s Day.

The children gave their thanks for the gifts by making Thank You cards, drawings and getting flowers – and these can be viewed in the gallery.

The first aid campaign for Polish orphanages in Lithuania, called “Children for Children,” was organized in 2012 together with the Centre of Polish Culture and Education, “Plus” in  Brussels, Joachim Lelewel Polish School at the Polish Embassy in Brussels and the East-Central Institute in Warsaw. The funds were devoted to paying for vacations for children, buying much-needed equipment, making repairs to the facilities and to other essentials.

The second campaign took place in 2014, in which EFHR supported the orphanages in Soleczniki, Podbrodzie, Niemenczyn, and in Vilnius’ Antokol. The management teams were provided with gifts like books, educational materials, board games, office supplies, and sweets. Through such actions, EFHR would like to emphasize the importance of the observance of the rights of children, who are an extremely significant part of society and thus require special care and attention.

We would like to take this opportunity to announce that from July we will start another initiative which will consist in sending volunteers to Polish orphanages. Those interested in the campaign, as well as those who are keen to learn more about volunteering, are invited to familiarize themselves with the campaign’s aims and the impressions of those who completed voluntary service last year.
