EFHR encourages ZIS Foundation Travel Grant applicants

header_feEvery year the German ZIS Foundation grants scholarships to young people aged between 16-20 who have not yet started studying at university. Young people from around the world have the opportunity to apply for €600 to carry out a project abroad on a freely chosen subject they are interested in. The participant must make the journey alone, and the place of departure should be that of their residence. The foundation’s aim is to enable youths to acquire practical skills related to their field of interest according to their own plan, broaden their knowledge in a new environment, discover different perspectives and opinions, and experience a wonderful adventure. One of the scholars is our intern.

In order to gain a scholarship, you have to prove your organisational skills by planning your own budget, devising a detailed plan of the project, and persuading the foundation that the selected subject is really of great interest to you. Every successful candidate continues their preparations with the aid of a tutor, who then stays in touch with the participant via e-mail during their length of stay in another country.

Once the expedition is finished, each programme participant is obliged to write a research paper on their project with at least 8,000 characters. The paper is intended to outline the knowledge gained abroad. Aside from this, the scholar should also keep a travel journal which will be a place for their various observations and reflections.

Every year the deadline for submitting applications is the last day of February.

For more information about the scholarship and the exact application requirements, visit the ZIS Foundation website (available in both English and German).
