International Volunteer Day

International Volunteer Day

IMG_9671On December 5th, 2014 we celebrated International Volunteer Day. On that occasion, Saltes organization hosted an event in Vilnius centre. Our EFHR Erasmus+ volunteer also took part in the event.

The main purpose of the event was to promote volunteering. The volunteers of European Voluntary Organization promoted and informed Vilnius citizens about the variety of their local and international experiences and about the prospect of volunteering.

The meeting was accompanied by the campaign “what do you think about voluntary work?” Each person could make their own definition of volunteering and stick it to a board dedicated to the topic. One of the most interesting definitions was the one made by Agnieszka, who said that volunteering is “a good ray of sunshine which changes the world around us”. Another person noted that “voluntary work is better than Vitamin C”. Each person who participated in the event was awarded with a small gift from the organizers.

The European Union (EU) states that voluntary work is important in every person’s life, because by voluntary work we get the chance to help other people and, at the same time, to improve our own abilities. From 2014, every young person between 16 and 30 years old has the opportunity to go to another country and take part in the European Voluntary Organization’s programme.
