EFHR volunteer at the Animal Shelter for a day
On 28th March, the European Foundation of Human Rights (EFHR) volunteer Carmen Cara Lorente was volunteering at the animal shelter „Lesė“. This activity is part of the EVS programme, as EVS volunteers can choose another accredited EVS institution for volunteering and collaborating there for one day. At the animal shelter, Carmen had the opportunity to learn how other EVS volunteers work and to help them with their tasks.
„Lesė“ is located in the North of Vilnius and it is the animal shelter that has more volunteers in Lithuania in comparison with other Lithuanian animal shelters. At the beginning of the day, she started by visiting the building and other EVS were helping her by explaining all the main rules of „Lesė“. After that, the EFHR volunteer had to carry out tasks like walking dogs, help with cleaning and feeding. They were also very lucky on this day as it was sunny so the weather was perfect for walking with dogs in the forest.
She really enjoyed doing these activities which implied a lot of physical effort and of course, to work with animals. This opportunity was very useful to be aware of the challenges of other NGOs and for improving team building skills with other EVS. The EFHR volunteer was really grateful for all the things she had the chance to learn at the animal shelter and for the help of other EVS. Finally, the things she enjoyed the most were to work with animals in an environment which is surrounded by nature.
