Meet our new Volunteer, Katarzyna Borowska!
Katarzyna Borowska is a new Volunteer at the EFHR.
She was raised in United Kingdom where she successfully completed her A-levels and is currently in third year of a Law degree at the University of Kent.
The decision to study law was based on her positive experience of taking an A-level Law and participating in a School Mooting Competition, where she had the chance to discover the practical side of the subject. Studying the subject at degree level ensured her that law is a field of her interest, mainly because it is based on collaboration with a variety of people, problem solving and analytical thinking.
Katarzyna is a student mentor for young secondary students from disadvantaged backgrounds as well as a peer mentor for her fellow younger University students.
She also actively participates in Law Clinic, where she has the chance to research and advise members of public under solicitors’ supervision. Recently worked on a tenancy deposit case in Canterbury.
By being fluent in both, English and in Polish she is able to volunteer at the Detention Centre, where she is often tasked with translating for kept people from Poland.
Internship at the EFHR gave her the chance to experience Human Rights law in action for the first time, it allowed her to see the hardships of minorities in Lithuania and understand the importance of having the right to original spelling of name and surname.
In her spare time, Katarzyna enjoys visiting various art galleries where she learns about arts history, as well as Netball. In 2018, she managed to finish a half-marathon, one of her greatest achievements.
