The EFHR goes to the catacombs of Vilnius Cathedral

On Thursday the 25th of January 2018, EVS Volunteer Carmen Cara Lorente, along with Volunteer Cormac Flahive and workers from the European Foundation of Human Rights (EFHR), visited the historic catacombs of Vilnius Cathedral.

During this trip, participants were able to experience the catacombs of the Cathedral with the help of a  guided tour. They learnt about the history of the catacombs, including the royal tombs and the final resting place of the heart of the Polish King and Grand Duke of Lithuania Władysław IV Vasa. This trip proved to be a culturally enlightening experience for all who attended and the history behind the catacombs proved highly memorable.

As an EVS Volunteer for the EFHR, Carmen has had many opportunities to increase her cultural awareness of Lithuania and improve her skills in relation to law work. She been able to attend Lithuanian Language lessons and gained a certificate in relation to this. She has also been able to research and write briefings relating to law, press releases for online publication, assisting and contributing to lectures given at Universities and other institutions, and has attended to multiple EVS trainings held in Trakai which she has enjoyed immensely. These monthly trips have proven invaluable in the development of her understanding of Lithuania history and culture. At the end of her EVS, she will also gain a YouthPass certificate, a valuable qualification which will enhance her job prospects immensely.

The EFHR has enjoyed a number of trips as a part of the EVS experience, such as their latest trip to Seimas, Vilnius University, Vilnius Municipality, and the Vilnius Cathedral Belltower.
