The petition Minority SafePack has succeed
“Minority SafePack” was a petition promoted by citizens that had to be signed for 1.000.000 people all over Europe. It had the aim of collecting the signatures in order to be sent to the European Union institutions and therefore, to start the procedure for becoming a law that would come into force in all European Union states. The petition gathers a set of measures that have the aim to protect national minorities and minority languages within the European Union. The deadline for signing the petition was yesterday, 3d April 2018.
After one year of campaign, the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) announced today the official results: 1 215 876 signatures have been collected. These excellent results mean that this initiative can be finally submitted to the European Commission. If the European Commission together with the European Parliament decides to adopt this proposal it will become a binding law that would be able to ensure and support all the national minorities in Europe.
The European Foundation of Human Rights (EFHR) is thankful for the support of everyone that signed this important petition. The number of signatures collected for this initiative was higher than the one million required for making “Minority SafePack” a huge success. Every signature counted and we all have won together
Furthermore, EFHR has been carrying out a competition for encouraging Lithuanian citizens to sign “Minority SafePack”. The winners were firstly announced yesterday and they will enjoy a 2 return ticket to Tallinn.
