XXVI Touristic Rally of Poles in Lithuania is over

XXVI Touristic Rally of Poles in Lithuania is over

photo1_1_This year, the annual Touristic Rally of Poles in Lithuania took place on the 5th and 6th  of July in the’ ‘Azuolyne” amusement park of  Trakai District Municipality. The European Foundation of Human Rights’ (EFHR) members also attended the event to inform the participants about the Foundation’s activities as well as about the free legal aid provided by EFHR.

Furthermore, the EFHR’s tent offered free educational books (like the textbook ” Poles, Europeans, Citizens”), information materials and leaflets about human rights and the rights of national minorities. The aforementioned educational materials also included brochures prepared by EFHR at the request of the Council of Europe (available both in Lithuanian and the Polish language) called ”Rights and Freedoms in Practice”, richly illustrating the European Convention on Human Rights and perfectly depicting the functions of the European Court of Human Rights, and a brochure entitled ”47 countries and one organization…the Council of Europe” prepared to acquaint young people with the key topics of the Council of Europe, in particular with: respect for democracy, justice and democratic citizenship.

Most participants, however, were attracted by the specially prepared contest meant to test their knowledge on society, human rights and national minorities (i.a. what is the percentage of national minorities in Lithuanian society?; What is Discrimination? etc). Those who gave correct answers were awarded with books, mugs, sweets and games. We are pleased that the contestants remembered us from the previous year’s event. What is more, thanks to the diverse nature and varying levels of difficulty, children also took part and were awarded for their participation (i.e. with atlases and sweets).

EFHR enjoys being a subject of interest for so many people and believes there are many ways of educating people about human rights.

See you at future meetings!
