Cooperation with Swedish organization established

wspolpracaDuring the international conference UNITED ‘ Rethinking diversity’ in May this year the European Foundation of Human Rights (EFHR) has established cooperation with the Swedish organization Uppsala Antidiscrimination Office (Diskrimineringsbyrån Uppsala), in order to exchange experience.

The meeting of a lawyer assistant Ewelina Baliko, who represented EFHR, with the representatives of the Swedish organization Uppsala Anti-Discrimination Office took place on 11th November. The Swedish organization was represented by a lawyer Linda Awersrted. The meeting was organized within the frameworks of the European Union project ‘ACT against discrimination II’, which is supposed to create new civil society and to promote actions against discrimination. The Swedish organization carried out several interviews with organizations dealing with human rights issues, promoting tolerance and equality, and, first of all, running legal activity in this field.

The representative of the EFHR said in the interview about establishing the European Foundation of Human Rights and difficulties it has been dealing with since the beginning of its existence. She also said about the legal activity charter of the lawyers working for the Foundation, distribution of work, strategies of particular legal cases, sources of funding and other organizational matters. There were also presented the most interesting legal cases having been led by the Foundation since the beginning of its activity, ways of getting to people who need legal help, contact with media and current social and educational initiatives.

The summary of the project ‘ACT against discrimination II’ will be covered in a report on the activity, methods and work strategy of the organizations which fight against discrimination, in order to exchange information among organizations in this field.

EFHR is glad that Uppsala Anti-Discrimination Office is interested in work of the Foundation and in exchanging experience which for the Foundation, as a young non-governmental organization in Lithuania, is very valuable. We are waiting for the report from the ‘ACT against discrimination II’ which may be beneficial for the Foundation and for other non-governmental organizations as well.
