International Day Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism

International Day Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism

Didntwesay-thund1International Day Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism  is an annual day to unite against fascism and racism, in particular anti-Semitism. UNITED for Intercultural Action, which has been active since 1993, began the event to mark the anniversary of ‘Kristallnacht’ (Crystal Night), the first step towards the extermination of the Jewish Europeans by the Nazis on 9 November 1938.

The European Foundation of Human Rights has been participating in UNITED’s initiative for a number of years.

This year, EFHR will mark International Day Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism by organizing a campaign at the campus of Vilnius University, Saulėtekio al. 9 on 9 November 2015. The event is being organized by two EFHR volunteers who are taking part in European Voluntary Service (EVS) and another intern who is working at the Foundation in partnership with the Erasmus+ programme. The activity will be held in cooperation with the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) Vilnius.

The foundation stall with free informational materials (such as pamphlets, posters, postcards, stickers provided by EFHR partner UNITED) will be set up at the university. During the study breaks, a short slideshow about the history of fascism and anti-Semitism, prepared by EFHR volunteers, will be shown. Students will also be informed about the work of EFHR and how they can contribute to the promotion of human rights as a volunteer at our organization.

Through this action EFHR hopes to raise awareness in order to prevent the past from being forgotten and to ensure that a tragic history never has the chance to repeat .
