Presentations for Europe Day
On the 10th and 11th of May 2016 our European Voluntary Service (EVS) volunteers gave two presentations about the European Union and European values for Europe Day (which is celebrated on the 9th May). Aneta Maciejewska and Leah Nedahl visited a day care centre, which is a part of SOS vaikų kaimai Lietuvoje (SOS Children’s Villages). The centre is a place for young people and children, especially those who are disadvantaged and at risk of social exclusion, to spend their time. About 15 people aged between 7 and 15 participated in the activities.
The next day Aneta and Leah gave a presentation to 30 9th-grade students at Adam Mickiewicz Gymnasium. This was not the first visit by our volunteers at this school — previously they conducted a series of workshops on human rights and hate speech for a total of 60 students from 2 classes.
Our volunteers decided to present the topic of Europe Day in the form of a quiz. After a short introduction, participants working in groups were invited to answer questions about the European Union, Europe, Europe Day and European values. Each question was followed by a brief discussion and explanation. After the quiz all participants received token gifts and sweets.
Both presentations were a success and the youngsters were really interested in the topic and the activities our volunteers prepared. Aneta and Leah are already planning the next workshops at schools and youth centres.
