Impressions of a EVS volunteer at the “Šilas” school
European Foundation of Human Rights (EFHR) would like to share an experience from our wonderful volunteer!
- How did you first learn about EVS?
I learnt about EVS from a friend of mine. He is volunteering in Finland in project related to refugees. When I finished my studies in Spain I thought it would be a great chance for a non-formal education. I started searching information in various web sites, Facebooks’ pages and finally I got a contact with sending organisation in Spain, which explained me all the application process.
- Why did you choose Lithuania and EFHR?
Actually, Lithuania and EFHR chose me. I was looking for educational project. My aim was applying for the ones which were farthest as possible. This is related to my studies’ field. As a geographer I looked for a big cultural crush and the possibility of meeting more than one country. As a teacher I applied for educational projects.
- What is the most memorable moment of your stay?
There are a lot of memorable moments but if I had to choose, it was a day I felt adapted to the routine of the foundation and Lithuania. Reach the centre and feel yourself as a part of the staff is the best. In this process I have to underline the willing of my tutor and rest of the team – they have done their best to make me feel comfortable.
- What was the worst moment during your EVS? Was there any?
The worst moment was during the first month, because of all the things connected with adaptation process. Small things like going to the supermarket or fixing pants became really difficult. However, I always had the support of the EFHR team and my tutor.
- Do you have any message for the next EVS volunteers?
Yes, don’t be afraid of asking for help. Try to meet as much people as possible, from and out of project. Between volunteers there are good feelings and we always tried to help each other. Finally, live the moment! Because it is an amazing experience.
- Do you have any future plans and projects?
I would like to find a job and continue my studies. If I had a chance to continue in Lithuania, I would like to do it. My project was only for 6 months and I would love to stay here more.
EFHR is glad that every year we have motivated and knowledgeable volunteers from home and abroad!
