EFHR organizes the initiative “Minority SafePack”

“Minorities SafePack” – is a citizens’ initiative whose aim is to collect one million signatures throughout Europe. This initiative covers various areas of policy and legal regulations that belong to European Union law in the fields of: regional and minority languages, education and culture, regional policy, cooperation, equal opportunities, media and audiovisual media services, and national support. The main objective of the initiative is to improve the system of protection of national minorities and to strengthen cultural and linguistic diversity in the EU.

The initiative “Minority SafePack” is supported by a broad alliance of minority organizations across the continent. Currently, the initiative is organized by the Federal Union of European Nationality Groups (FUEN) on behalf of the European Citizens’ Initiative “Minority SafePack”. The initiative received support when the European Youth Forum (EYF) adopted the proposal at the Second Council of Members in 2017, the Hungarian Parliament adopted a resolution supporting “SafePack”, the German Bundestag and other organizations unanimously decided to accept the application.

The European Foundation for Human Rights (EFHR) fully supports the initiative and coordinates activities to provide this support in Lithuania. Actions proposed under the initiative will help to strengthen the protection of national minorities and their mother tongues, thus ensuring the preservation of cultural diversity in Europe and preventing the disappearance of minority languages.
