The EFHR is organising an event to commemorate the “Week Against Racism”

European Foundation of Human Rights (EFHR) is organising an event on 19 March at 6:30 PM in Youth information centre (Konstitucijos pr. 3, Vilnius) to commemorate the “Week Against Racism” campaign. During this event we will be having a discussion on “Tendencies of Racism in Lithuania”. It will be held in English.

Every year, UNITED coordinates a weeklong Europe-wide campaign around 21 March to protest against all forms of racism and discrimination, and celebrate the diversity that enriches European societies. The European Action Week Against Racism 2018 will take place from 17-25 March under the slogan “Diversity – never enough!”

The purpose of this event is to raise public awareness of the issues of racism and discrimination in our society and to demonstrate that such issues are present on the global scale and that it encompasses all areas of our lives. During the debates, we are expecting to label the issues of racism and discrimination as violations of human rights. There will be visual materials in which speakers from the United States will speak about the issues of racism in their country. Attempts will be made to demonstrate that these issues, although they are different in each country, are deeply rooted in our societies.

The discussion will be attended by Lešek Jankovskij from the European Foundation of Human Rights, PhD Jelena Jonis from the University of Vilnius, Dr. Giedrė Blažytė from Institute for Ethnic Studies of Lithuanian Social Research Center and volunteers from EFHR. The speakers will give presentations on the issues of hate speech, tendencies of racism and discrimination in Lithuania and volunteers will present volunteering and EVS opportunities.

The format of the discussion is informal; therefore, we are encouraging everyone to attend. There will also be snacks and drinks.

During the event participants will have a chance to sign the petition for “Minority SafePack”. More information on the petition can be found here.

We are encouraging you to attend this event!
