Volunteers experience in LGL organisation

Volunteers experience in LGL organisation

On August 9 the EVS volunteer Giulia went volunteering for a day at the Lithuanian Gay League (LGL) association in Vilnius.

The LGL association is the only non govermental organization in Lithuania that represent the interests of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (LGBT+). At the moment only seven people work at LGL, but there are a lot of volunteer and internships that work really hard on the projects brought on by LGL.

Giulia found out more about the current projects and the main one is the Baltic Pride.
The Pride would be on 2019 June 4-9 in Vilnius, and currently they are looking for speakers for the event that will explain the current LGBT+ situation in the Baltic States and share what the future goals are. But this is not the only project.

Talking with the people who work at LGL and their volunteers Giulia learned more about other important activities like school intervention and a awareness campaign about transgender’s rights.

The things Giulia enjoyed the most were the people, since they all took time of their daily work to explain to her how the LGL association worked and to answer her questions, and that she was able to learn a lot about the current LGBT+ situation in Lithuania.
