EFHR held a training course at the International Civic Initiative Centre “Nash Dom“

On 21st June 2018 the European Foundation of Human Rights (EFHR) held a free of charge training course entitled „Hate speech in the cyberspace vs. freedom of speech“ at the Belorussian community centre –  International Civic Initiative Centre “Nash Dom“.

Training session was conducted by a lawyer of EFHR, Leszek Jankowski. He presented Foundation’s activities, shared information about hate speech, such as how to recognize it, he also discussed about the cases of hate speech in Lithuania and how the legal regulation works in practice. EFHR representative mentioned Foundation’s achievements in this area. Foundation has filed more than 600 statements to law enforcement agencies and more than 50 cases have been won.

During the training, the topic of discrimination was also mentioned, such as cases of discrimination of men and women, discrimination based on race and nationality. EFHR team and volunteers are actively searching for discriminative job postings. Inappropriate job postings are then forwarded to the Equal Opportunities Ombudsman, who deals with complaints in the prescribed manner.

At the end of the training course, the participants had the opportunity to ask questions and get free legal advice. Listeners were interested in the challenges of human rights abuse cases and its most common violations.
